Homemade Honey Granola Recipe

Granola is high packed in antioxidants, fibers, and nutrients. It supports us on long trail walks, hikes, or even a day in the park. It’s an easy snack to carry on the go, but also to make. This recipe will not only provide the basics of a an amazing homemade-granola, but also suit your wild, fruity, savory, and/or nutty side. What makes this recipe even better is that it’s star ingredient is HONEY! Healthy and yummy.

Ingredients

3 cups of rolled dry oats (or old fashion oats)

1 1/2 tablespoon of honey

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon of nutmeg

Pinch of kosher salt

1 cup of almonds (sliced)

1/2 tablespoon of coconut or canola oil (I prefer coconut)

1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds (optional)

1 tablespoon of pumpkin seeds (optional)



INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F

STEP: 2 Line a baking sheet with tin foil, parchment paper, or silicone

STEP 3: Place all of the dry ingredients in a bowl until mixed and combined

STEP 4: Stir in the rest of the ingredients

STEP 5: Transfer the mixture onto the baking sheet, spreading it so it is an even layer

STEP 6: Bake for 35 minutes, and occasionally stir the mixture in the oven

STEP 7: When the almonds look toasted, take it out and let it cool. You can either eat it right now or store it in an air tight container for 2 weeks.

STEP 8: ENJOY!


LET’S SPICE IT UP!

Nutty Coco Powder Power-

STEP 1: Repeat steps 1-4 above , to make a basic granola mix.

STEP 2: Add 1 tablespoon of Cacao powder, 1 tablespoon of Cacao nibs, 1 cup of semisweet chocolate (or dark) chips, and 1 cup of coconut shreds.

STEP 3: Mix and repeat steps 5- 6 above.

STEP 4: Melt two cups of dark/milk chocolate chips for 2 minutes, occasionally stirring.

STEP 5: Once the granola has cooled, drizzle the melted chocolate onto it, adding more coconut shreds (optional) or some fresh berries to top it off.


Dried Fruit Mix-

STEP 1: Prior to making the granola, cut up desired fruit such as strawberries, bananas, apples, apricots, pears, cherries, grapes. Heat the oven to 160 F.

STEP 2: Separate them on a baking pan, so there is a little room between them. If desired, drizzle some honey, or a pinch of cinnamon (on apples definitely) to the fruits, making it sweeter.

STEP 3: Transfer them into the oven, and let them bake for 6 hours.

STEP 4: Take them out after 6 hours, and store them into a air tight container.

STEP 5: Repeat steps 1-6 of making a basic granola (above), and take the mixture out once done

STEP 6: Mix in the dried fruits, and add a combination of 1/2 cup of walnuts and almonds as well.


Creamy Peanut Butter Banana-

STEP 1: Repeat steps 1-4 of making a basic granola (above).

STEP 2: Add 1 ripe- mashed banana, and 2 cups of creamy chunky peanut butter (or any type of nut spread) into the mixture. Chop up 1 1/2 cups of peanuts, and transfer it into the mixture.

STEP 3: Repeat steps 5-8 of making a basic granola (above).


Apple Crunch-

STEP 1: Repeat steps 1-4 to make a basic granola.

STEP 2: Peel, core, and dice 2 medium sized apples. Make a seasoning mixture of 1/2 tablespoon of pumpkin spice and 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon. Transfer the apples and the seasoning into a large zip lock bag.

STEP 3: Rub and mix the seasoning and apples in the bag so that the spices are spread evenly on the diced apples.

STEP 4: Add 2 cups of applesauce, the cinnamon-pumpkin spiced apples into the granola mix, and 1 cup of sliced walnuts. Combine well.

STEP 5: Repeat steps 5-8 of making a basic granola (above).
