During the winter, out hands get dry and irritated. Usually we try store bought products, thinking they will help us, but the obscure chemicals only make it worse. A solution to this is making your own soap. By crafting your own artisan lavender soap, this is a friendly gesture that can be gifted towards your friends and families. This is a perfect gift for any holiday, like Valentine’s Day, as you can choose a heart silicone mold, instead of a typical square one. This DIY will be using local farmer goat’s milk soap base-to give it that natural “feel”, but you can really use any kind that you desire. You can do this craft with your kids, and it’s a perfect way to support local farmers.
Materials
- 2 lbs of Melt + Pour Goat Milk (Soap Base)
- A dried lavender bunch (local market)
- 2-3 tbsp. honey
- 20 drops of lavender essential oil
- Soap Silicon Mold
- Double Boiler (optional)
- Red and Yellow Food Coloring
Instructions
1- Cut the soap into dice cubes, so that it well melt quicker and easier. You can either melt it into a double boiler, or a microwave. In a microwave, keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn. Microwave for no longer than 30-60 seconds and occasionally stir every 15 seconds.
2- Harvest about 2-3 tbsp. of the dried buds and measure out the honey, once the soap is melting.
3- After the soap is done melting, drop the appropriate amount of lavender essential oil, and stir.

4- Then, add the honey and lavender buds into the soap mixture, and stir. You can also add food coloring to make it purple, 15 drops of blue and 80 drops of yellow food coloring.
5- Pour the mixture into your preferred silicon design, and let it cool and sit for 45 minutes-1 hour to become solid.
6- Wrap the soap in a fabric organza bag, coffee filters, tissue paper, or you can use strips of burlap, and top it off with wildflowers or the remaining dried lavender.
